2006-2007 NFL – Week 1 September 10, 2006

trackback

I don’t have as much enthusiasm for the start of the pro football season, as I do for college, but I can’t ignore the pro game either. I absolutely love the NFL, just not this early in the season. I’m preoccupied with the end of baseball and the beginning of college football.

Here’s the best of week 1 action. Week 1 actually started Thursday night with Pittsburgn vs Miami.

Bears at Packers (173rd meeting in this rivalry)
Colts vs Giants (Manning vs Manning)
Broncos vs Rams (debut of Ram’s new coach)
Cowboys vs Jaguars (TO’s Dallas debut)

Monday Night Football

Vikings vs Redskins
Raiders vs Chargers

My Picks:

Bears, Giants, Broncos, Cowboys, Vikings, Chargers

It’s halftime (or about to be) for the early games. Quite a few surprises early on. Buffalo (coached by Dick Jauron) is up 10 on the Patriots, Baltimore already has 14 pts on the board (Jamal Lewis and the Baltimore Defense scoring already), Seattle is only up 3 on the Lions, and the Rams are already up 12 on the Broncos.

We’ll see if these hold up throughout the day.

Bears, Colts, Rams, Jags, Vikings are winners. The Chargers are up 13 at the half. That should be a lock, but we’ll see. Not counting the Oak/SD game, I’m 1-4 right now. I won’t call them upsets in week one, but the Broncos and Cowboys I did not expect to lose. And thanks to Eli Manning and the Giants offensive coordinator for losing that game for me. All they had to do was run the ball down the Colt’s throat all night and the game was over. Instead, they lose.

The Chargers finished off the Raiders making me 2-4 after the first week of NFL action.
